Hey everyone, just trying to get some clarity on what options I have for upgrading my head unit. I have a 2013 Golf (Base, 2.5 Automatic) that currently has the RCD-310 without bluetooth or satellite radio functions. After reading several different guides and topics on various forums, I am becoming hesitant on whether to drop the cash on a head unit if it will end up not working in my vehicle or causing issues like battery draining. I guess I would rather save myself the headache if it will end up costing more money than my initial purchase of said head unit, though I would greatly appreciate having additional functionality in my vehicle.

In terms of compatibility, I should be able to just drop either of those units in the vehicle from what I have read. But, I have also been seeing people talking about different hardware revisions and how not having a CAN USB that supports newer revisions can cause battery issues. Although that may just be for anything that is before 08 or so, I am not entirely sure. Unfortunately I don't have access to VCDS, so I can't even confirm exactly what's in my car.

Is there any other way to verify whether I can just drop either of these head units into my Golf? I definitely appreciate the responses! I figured the GPS antenna would be necessary to have the navigation working properly. I am assuming that if I went with the RNS-510 I wouldn't need a bluetooth module, right? I am just making this assumption based on the RBS-315 having a built in bluetooth module.

This makes me feel much more at ease with the swap. Now since I have the base Golf, would I still need to remove the compass module? My MFI doesn't have navigation, but does reference the compass to obtain direction (i.e. N, S, E, W), but doesn't have map data or directions. Other than that, I think my last question is whether it is required that I would need access to VCDS? EDIT: The only other thing I can think of is whether or not I would need a microphone adapter for calls over bluetooth? If you went for a RNS-510 you would need a Bluetooth module for the 315 you may or may not.

Some models did have internal Bluetooth (you would still need a mic though). You could either remove your compass module or disable it using VCDS. Blaupunkt gmdat cdp manual. When I retrofitted a 510 to my mothers car her MFD wouldn't show the nav data until I reset the 510.
