Last time I looked Mediacentre does just 1 programme per tuner and has limits on how many tuners can be used without hacking. There are things Vista Media Centre does better than the competition (I believe MHEG5 support is one) but on simple things like efficient use of tuners its very easily beaten. By all means try it out on Vista but also try gb-pvr, ProgDVB and Mediaportal.

EPSON Scan directly controls all of the features of your EPSON scanner. With this software you can scan images in color, grayscale, or black and white and obtain professional quality results.

I'd hazard a guess that your system was actually recording 8 channels on 8 tuners - assuming the four cards you have installed are each dual tuners? I am not aware of any software that can make a tuner record/view more than one channel at a time? Vista Ultimate with the TV Pack and Windows 7 supports up to four tuners, so yes - MediaPortal beats it hands down there, but it does efficiently use the four tuners it has access to. I have tried several times to get MediaPortal to work for me but it just didn't quite gel and I always went back to Windows Media Center. Very happy with Windows 7 Media Center at the moment. 1st: Media Centre in XP is obsolete and unsupported since the big push to shovel Vista began. 2nd: I got home from the pub Friday night to find successfully recording 8 channels simultaneously on 4 tuners (yes, its Glastonbury time again).

There are two basic schools of PCTV software, the regular applications such as DVBViewer and AltDVB, and the Media Centre-style. Personally, I hate the latter software, I find them slow, clumsy and they rarely seem to work very well.

I just want to be able to schedule recordings, watch the occasional programme and timeshift when required, not navigate through endless menus. And having a seperate configuration programme is ridiculous.

The most stupid thing about DVBViewer is that they don't provide a trial version. It will happily work with multiple tuners and has an excellent EPG. You could also consider: ProgDVB although it does seem to have a habit of rebooting XP if the aerial signal is corrupted. There is a free version but, if you like this, I'd recommend DVBViewer over it anyday, Another Media Centre alternative is GB-PVR I never got this to work with my first tuner. Therefore it is quite possible for a single tuner to tune to a single multiplex and record/watch multiple channels at the same time provided, of course, that those channels are on the same multiplex. However, just because it is technically possible doesn't mean that this is a common function offered by PVRs or PVR software running on a PC. Hopefully though this is a feature that will become more common. A DVB (terrestrial, satellite or cable) transport stream will usually carry programme streams for multiple services.
